Assault on Hoth

((I'm just taking the initiative for this open season and getting the ball rolling. Open season rules say that we can conquer his worlds freely. Besides, it just seems silly for anyone but the GA to have Hoth. Such history...))

24 hour assault notice.

A lone StealthX exited hyperspace in Outside of Grav-Well Orbit over the frozen worlds, northern pole. It immediately began scanning the planet and began to travel towards the other pole via the back end of the planet. It scanned for orbital defenses, mobile assets such as ships and fighter squadrons, as well as the planet's anti-orbital defenses and critical locations. Once he completed the scan the pilot transmitted all the data back to the fleet.

[If someone could tell me exactly what he has orbiting defending Hoth because I'm having trouble figuring it out...]

Meanwhile, the fleet prepared itself for battle. All ships began launching their squadrons and prepared for the assault.

OOC - Since he hadn't listed anything as defenses we can assume the bare minimum.

1 planetary shield
1 starfighter base
1 planet to space weapon
10 planet to planet weapons
1 troop barracks

Also, here is his fleet, but they probably would not be stationed here so we will send them in as needed.

Ships:
Constraint Class Command Destroyer x1 4800 meters
Nemesis Star Destroyer x3 5400 meters
Allegiance Support Star Destroyer x5 11000 meters
Imperial Star Destroyer Mk1 x10
Imperial Star Destroyer Mk2 x10
Imperial Star Destroyer Mkx x10 48000 meters
70800 meters left
Empire Fleet Carrier x10 18000 meters
52800 meters left
Dominator Interdictor Destroyer x4 6400 meters
Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser Mk II x10 6000 meters
Lancer Frigate x50 12500 Meters
Carrack Cruiser x20 (10 with lasers 10 with ion cannons)
Victory Patrol Destroyer Mk X x10 9000 meters
11900 meters left
Nebulon B2 Frigate x15 3795

I was thinking... if no one objects, why don't we use this as our training sim. I'll be the Warlord's forces.

OOC: Thank you Cory. I'm game for it being a training sim. Oh and just so you know, I'll be bringing a troop transport or two for the ground assault. Might as well do a ground battle sim while we're at it.

((OOC: And now the game begins. I'll assume that EVERYTHING is on the front side and that there are no ships in orbit.))

Out of hyperspace came a task force of the Galactic Alliance Third Fleet in orbit around the sixth planet in the Hoth system, also known as Hoth, and immediately began jamming communications. In mid orbit on the frontside of the planet, fifteen Aramadia Thrustships, five Majestic Heavy Cruisers, and six Ranger-class Gunships exited hyperspace along with eleven X-Zero B-Wing squadrons and sixteen S4 E-Wing squadrons. The thrustships were divided up into two groups: one consisting of seven towards the planet while the remaining eight were pointing away from the planet. The heavy cruisers and gunships were placed between them. The first group of thrustships were in an hexagonal shape while the second group was in a checkerboard formation. The Majestics were in an inverted pentagram and the gunships were in a hexagonal position around them. The fighters were arranged in a large sphere around the entire force. All these ships were constantly changing their positions within each formation in order to prevent a target lock. The heavy cruisers opened up on the planetary shield with a barrage of turbolaser and proton torpedo fire, hoping to draw the attention of the planetary gun.

Meanwhile, the remainder of the Third Fleet task force exited hyperspacfe over the planet's northern pole. That force consisted of a single Mon Mothma-class Interdictor Star Destroyer, three Wraith Carriers, and two Vanguard-class Troop Transports in the center of the formation, with three Nebula-class Star Destroyers oriented towards the planet and a pair of MC80B star cruisers covering the aft quarter. In defensive positions around these ships were six squadrons of HB-271 bombers, eleven squadrons of X-Zero B-Wings, and seventeen S4 E-Wing Squadrons.

Also in mid orbit over the northern pole were thirty-four squadrons of XJ3's, twenty-two squadrons of C-Wings, and five HB-271 bomber squadrons. These ships immediately dove towards the planet's atmosphere, using the planet's magnetic field as cover for their approach. The two troop transports immediately broke formation and began to move to a lower orbit.

Also, several StealthX squadrons had exited hyperspace and powered down all but their most critical systems, waiting for their oppurtunity to strike. Also the Interdictor star destroyer fired up all four of its gravity-well generators, one pointing out into space from the north pole, one being angled so that it covered the front side, and the other two were set so that they covered both the backside and rightside of the planet. Once online, they would prevent anything from exiting hyperspace any closer to the planet than edge of gravity well orbit, except on the left side of the planet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------

Weapons fired:
Planetary Shield: 75 Hvy Turbolaser Batteries, 75 Quad Turbolaser Cannons, 35 Turbolaser Batteries, 50 Hvy Ion Cannons, 40 Capital Proton Torpedoes

Movement:
34x XJ3 Squadrons, 5x HB-271 Bomber Squadrons, 22x C-Wing Squadrons: Moving through Low Orbit and into atmosphere
2x Vanguard Troop Transports: Moving from North Pole, Mid Orbit into North Pole, Low Orbit.

((if its alright, may I take this battle over? I have not yet set up seperate fleets, so I will just say that this is the one fleet. After all, I know I was quitting, but I have returned, because I really like the idea of this Warlord. I will even go so far as to say, that the fleet won't arrive for the first three posts, time to travel, as it probably wouldn't have been stationed here.))

((I'm not a manager, but I suppose that would be ok. But not the whole fleet though. For one, you've got other worlds to defend, like Myrkr. Second, odds are you wouldn't have put the whole fleet at Hoth. Merely a portionof it. So I say wait two rounds, and then a part of your fleet can arrive to fight. Sound good?))

((Whoops wrote those down wrong. Here's the real numbers

1x Mon Mothma Interdictor SD
2x MC80B Star Cruisers
3x Nebula SD
3x Wraith Carriers
5x Majestic Heavy Cruisers
15x Aramadia Thrustships
6x Ranger Gunships
2x Vanguard Troop Transports

And in terms of numbers, yes you are, but in firepower terms, we're either equal or you have the advantage))

((Probably but be sure to see in the OOC area about fighter divisions. Plus it's how you use them that counts. Be detailed.

And don't forget to post your initial defenders, not to mention to post in the Myrkr thread biggrin ))

(And you should know, if you haven't posted defending your planet with the forces you have by 6 PM, or even a request for an extension, I'll continue on inot the next round.)

((Ok now to take the fight to the enemy!))

The transports, unopposed by any sort of weapons fire, continued on their course down through the low orbit and began to enter the atmosphere. Meanwhile the fighter squadrons that had already entered the atmosphere flew to the frontside of the planet and began to prepare for the assault. Two of the HB-271 Bomber squadrons began lining up to drop their torpedoes and bombs on the troop barracks while the remaining three squadrons lined up to bomb the planet's fighter base. The fighter squadrons that had escorted the bombers in began to provide cover for them, weaving in and out of formation to keep the anti-air guns from getting a lock.

Meanwhile in orbit, the assault fleet continued with its bombardment of the planetary shields. As it did this the ships continued with its manuevers to evade target locks. Aboard the Cal Omas, Laron watched the heavy cruisers and thrustships bombard the planetary shield. He watched as ripples formed on the shield's surface. His eye's narrowed as he concentrated on the situation. Something didn't seem right, it didn't make any sense for there to be no ships in orbit, let alone no defensive fire. Laron immediately ordered that all ships to stand ready and prepare for incoming forces.

Vice Admiral Galar Avara sat back in the command chair of the Viscount Star Defender Steadfast, the fleet commander's flagship. Expecting little resistance, his executive officer's task force had been dispatched to Hoth to take over control of it in light of a small warlord faction being revealed in recent times. As the task force began it's assault on the planetary shields Galar prepared the rest of the Third Fleet for possible action and dispatched a short message to Admiral Laron.

"Admiral Laron, please keep the Steadfast informed of your status throughout the engagement. If casualties or even severe damages are noticeably high during the battle be prepared for reinforcements to arrive, regardless of your request. The Alliance has no need to suffer unnecessary bloodshed and destruction when we have assets ready to come to your aid."

-- tag Laron --

Sadly enough, they just keep dying...
