It was part of the Galactic Republic from that government's earliest days. The founder of the New Sith Empire, Darth Ruin, was an Umbaran, and Umbara may have been a founding world of that Empire. It was certainly under Sith control by 1,002 BBY, when the Brotherhood of Darkness operated a Sith academy on the world that specialized in the training of Sith Assassins. Since many Umbarans served as spies for the Empire, after the Battle of Endor most Umbarans retreated to Umbara, fearing retribution.

The Sith Academy of Umbara was established by the Brotherhood of Darkness near the end of the New Sith Wars. They used it to train Sith assassins and spies, including Umbaran shadow spies. These initiates had a greater aptitude in the Force than their brethren in the academies on Honoghr, Gentes, and Gamorr. Here recruits learned to use the dark side for secrecy, deception, and manipulation. Those who survived the rigorous training became deadly assassins, preferring use of the dark side to kill rather than with physical force.

There were rumors of the Brotherhood of Darkness having left the planet and the Sith Academy to rot and decay, that they also left behind their teachings. Until the present day, no one has found anything, nor have they even dared to search. There is one, however, that will risk their lives and the lives of those that follow him in trying to recover those lost teachings that once trained the most fierce Sith Assassins ever.

As the vessel touched down on the shadowy planet, the Sith inside prepared themselves. Kal had reached the landing bay just behind Ilanah. The events that had unfolded within the last several hours were some that he had never expected, but ended up liking. He would take a quick look at her before turning to see his Apostles and Apprentice enter in behind him. They all knew their mission. They needed to search for any writings or holocrons that would have been left behind after the Brotherhood deserted the Academy. He would let everyone else, other than him and Ilanah leave first. Kal looked over at her, "We have no idea what shape the Academy is in, so stay with me. We need to recover any material that we can. It is important that we search as much of the ruins that we can."

Her gaze was on the journal when Kal spoke to her. She hadn't even looked at any of he others. No doubt they all knew by now what the apprentice had seen in her room, not that she cared. "Hmm? Oh. Of course." She responded to him before she closed the journal. Ilanah wasn't positive that it would be of any help to them if the Academy was truly in ruins.

Truthfully, she was excited. The museum had never allowed her to do any field work because they said she was needed in the musuem to examine and catalogue the artifacts that had come in. Sure, that was excitng too, but not like this was.

He nodded to her. This would be one of their more calm missions, hopefully. He checked to make sure that he had both of his lightsabers on his belt. There might not be a need, but it was better to be safe than sorry. He would motion for her to step out of the ship first. All of the others had already moved on to the Academy to begin the search for the teachings.

"After you...."

She would look up at Kal for only a moment before she headed off of the ship. He was right, the Academy was a disaster. She would head inside, really unsure of what she was looking for or where to look. There was nothing, not even a map in her fathers journal. Lana had read a few small excerpts about the Academy, and that was it. "I hate to admit this....but I have no idea what I am supposed to be helping you to look for." Ilanah murmured as she slowed to fall in step at his side.

His gaze would move up to the ruined Academy structure. His mind began to wander, began to think if he was able to rebuild this place he could create a new Academy and bring the Sith back to their rightful rule in the Galaxy and wipe the Jedi from existence. A small smirk came to his face as he would turn to her, "Any kind of scroll or a holocron. Holocrons are small diamond like devices that have someones memories or teachings stored on them. I've never personally seen them, but I've heard plenty of descriptions about them..."

Ilanah nodded her response as she continued ahead. "Well they would have likely had a library of some sort. Or like an archive?" She thought about it for a moment and stopped at what looked like it had been a counter. The data center that was there was completely destroyed so that wouldn't be any help. "I would think that it would have been on one of the upper levels. On Corellia in any of the museums, things like that were higher up. Which could be a challenge to get to." She said. Any old lifts would have likely not worked, so they would have to find stairs.

It also seemed likely to her that classroom type rooms and offices would have been on the higher levels too. There, they might be able to find even more.

His eyes moved around the place as they walked through. She was right, most likely what they were looking for would be held up on the higher levels. He pressed his finger to his ear, activating the hands-free comlink he had with the others, "Begin checking the upper levels. I want everything to be searched over twice..." He would drop his hand and looked over to her, "We need to find a way up there...."

Ilanah had wandered away from him, though she would still be in his line of vision. She stopped near to one of the old lift tubes. The doors were open and the lift was absent. She would hold onto the frame and look down for a minute, clicking her tongue against the back of her teeth as she did. Lana looked up into the lift tube. "Huh." she said as she reached her right arm further into the tube and grabbed a hold of a metal rung there. An old service ladder of sorts. after a moment, she dissapeared completely inside as she pulled herself onto the ladder.

"well come on then...." She called out, peeking around the edge of the doorway. "Unless you can fly and didn't tell me." She smiled and started climbing upwards.

He was too busy trying to find a way that they both could take up that he didn't noticed her stray off and find an old service ladder. As she called out to him to follow, he quickly turned around to see that she was gone. He followed where her voice had come from, and looked up to see her climbing further and further upwards on the ladder. He nodded his head a little, "This will work." He reached up, grabbing a hold of where he could and pulled himself on up. It was a little snug for him. He wouldn't let it stop him as he reached hand over hand, pulling himself further and further.

Ilanah continued upwards until she found the first available door that was hanging open. She would hesitate a moment before she looked down at Kal, who wasn't far off of her heels, before she reached over and grabbed the edge of the door frame and pulled herself off of the ladder and into the doorway. She would turn around and look down at the Sith who was still ascending the narrow ladder.

Once she saw that he wasn't far from her, she turned and looked at what level they were on. It wasn't as destroyed up here as it was downstairs, but they were several more levels up. Ilanah would walk slowly down the marble hallway, taking the time to stop and look at all of the doors and the name plates next to the doors. She stopped and frowned as she looked at one of the name plates and dusted it off with her hand. Without stopping to see where Kal was and what he was doing, she pushed the door to the room open and went inside.

Of course all of them would have to be checked, but this was the first room there.

His hand would come off of the ladder and grab a hold of the door frame, pulling himself up into the hallway. He could see all the way down that the walls were still in decent shape. He had no worries about this place falling down around them. He could see her enter into a room. His senses tuned in on her, making sure to keep her safe as possible.

He would enter into the second room to his left. It looked like a regular sized room, but there was no furniture. Nothing at all in the room. It was strange to see nothing having been left there by the residents that abandoned this place. His eyes quickly scanned the room, making sure to not leave a single inch of the room uncovered. He turned and left the room, heading into the next. The same result came upon him. The room was empty. He had gone into several different rooms, finding all the same. A large sigh escaped his nose as he entered back into the hallway, looking down each way to see if there was another room that had potential.

Ilanah checked a few rooms before she chose another, randomly. She would step inside and a small smile crept across her face. It was dusty and filthy, but the shelves were filled with books and there were piles of papers, and scrolls, actual paper. Her fingers grazed one of the scrolls on the desktop before she picked it up and unfurled the delicate paper. She would glance over it, seeing that it wasn't what they wanted, she put it back down.

She walked along the perimeter of the room, dragging her fingertips over the spines of the leather bound books before one caught her eye. The writing on it was the old Sith language. It was on a higher shelf, so Lana dragged over a chair and climbed up and pulled the green book down before she blew the dust off of it carefully. Lana dropped into the chair and opened it, carefully turning the crumbling pages.

Just as he was about to enter into the next room, he could feel her emotions rise with excitement. Quickly, Kal ran out of the room he was in and into the one that she had been in. As he entered, he soon found exactly what she was excited about. A smile came to his face too. He would see her sitting down, reading through one of the books.

"Good find here...hopefully there is something here for us."

Lana stopped turning the pages and blinked slowly. she let the book rest in her lap and she slipped her nails under something that was embedded into the pages. It was like someone had cut through the paper to hide the little gem shaped object in the book. "Kal...." She murmured as she worked on pulling it out of the pages. "Some of these books, I know...books and not holos....they really could be useful." Lana said as she finally pried the little object out of its hiding spot. It glittered against his skin and she held it out to him. "Is this one?" At that moment, she hoped it was one of what he was seeking, but she also hoped he would tell her that the books, or at least some of them, could come too.

There were quite a few of books inside the room where she was sitting. He would look at the one that she was holding, trying to see what she was attempting to get at. Once she pulled it from the inside of the book and hold it up for him to see, Kal smiled a little. His hand raised up and used the Force to pull the object from her hands so that he may look at it closer. His fingers clenched around the small object. His eyes focused in on it, trying to find the one little thing that would give it away that it was one of the holocrons.

"This is one of them. I'm sure, however, that there are others all throughout the building.."
